You mean the drain plug. I don't know exactly, but you can use a largish adjustable wrench as long as it's high quality. If you aren't comfortable using tools, forget the adjustable. You can strip the bolt. Go crazy and take a few sizes under the car with you. You aren't going to save that much over a quick lube place, but hey...go for it. What size wrench do i need to take the bolt off of my oil pan on a 1999 mercury tracer?
I went to Sears and bought a ';box end wrench'; 16mm on one end and 18mm on other end. It fits about 99% of drain bolts on oil pans. The 16mm is close to 5/8 inch and the 18mm is fairly close to 3/4 inch. I used it when I worked at a Ford dealer ship and never found a Ford product it wouldn't fit.
99mercury tracer is probly a 9/16th wrench or a metric 14...
pay the 25 dollars.
