Do you really have to remove the whole engine in order to replace an oil pan gasket in a 97 ford ranger?

first disconnect the battery, take the starter off, take the motor mount bolts loose, jack up the motor, and support, pull the oil pan bolts and if the oil pan will not turn enough to remove completely, drop the oil pick up tubeDo you really have to remove the whole engine in order to replace an oil pan gasket in a 97 ford ranger?
