Do you need to pull the motor to change the oil pan on a 1998 mercury mystique?

You definately should not have to pull the motor just to remove the oil pan. If you have access to a vehicle lift, this job will be much easier. If not you will be very uncomfortable on the ground. Anyways...

1) When the front of the car is in the air, (either jackstands or on the lift) drain all the oil from the pan by removing the oil drain plug.

2) There should be about 8 bolts holding the oil pan to the engine block. Remove these and then remove the oil pan and the gasket.

3) Scrape any leftovers from the gasket off of the engine block. The new oil pan you have should come with a gasket. Put some gasket sealer around the oil pan and put the gasket on the oil pan.

4) Bolt the oil pan into the block with the bolts you took out earlier.

5) Open the hood and pour oil into the hole in the valve cover, until the dipstick says it is full.

Good as new!Do you need to pull the motor to change the oil pan on a 1998 mercury mystique?
I agree with Mike Bear but I think on the 2.5 v-6 you have to yank the subframe from under the car to get full access at the oil pan ...
