Can I replace an oil pan gasket (FelPro from www.rockauto.com) on an 86 Mustang GT with the engine in the car?

The oil pan is U shaped and fits around a major cross member. Is it possible to get the pan off and a new gasket installed without pulling the engine? The new gasket has a metal core and I am wondering if it is possible to just lower the pan and slide the new gasket in.Can I replace an oil pan gasket (FelPro from www.rockauto.com) on an 86 Mustang GT with the engine in the car?
No. Hook her up to a cherry picker, remove the subframe and then do it with the engine still in position but the cherry picker supporting the engine. That's probably the easiest way so you don't have to disconnect everything. Can I replace an oil pan gasket (FelPro from www.rockauto.com) on an 86 Mustang GT with the engine in the car?
Yes! You will have to jack the car up and locate to oil pan from underneath. It will have approx. 8 to 16 bolts around it. Remove all bolts and remove old gasket. When you put the new one on make sure the gasket is in the right place so all bolts line up with all holes in the gasket. When you tighten it down make sure not to overtighten and work back and forth. (tighten a bolt on the left side then move to the right to tighten the next until all bolts are snug)
