Can overfilling oil cause an oil pan gasket leak ?

I had an oil change done and was told that I had an oil pan gasket leak. There was no oil leaking before it went in, now it is dripping down. Checked the oil level it looks like it is overfilled. Can overfilling the oil cause an oil pan gasket leak ? Now they want 300 bucks to fix it,Can overfilling oil cause an oil pan gasket leak ?
The oil pan gasket is there to keep oil from seeping around it, but that's when it's subjected to the usual splashing and rundown, not when it's trying to hold back the actual static pressure of a level that's above the height of the gasket.

More worrisome is the oil level. If it's overfilled too much it can get high enough to get churned by the crankshaft and rod ends. That can foam the oil so much that the pump can't pump it - it's no good on foam - and next thing you know your engine is oil-starved even though the pan is full. That's weird, but there it is.

$300 bucks? What the heck for? Unless you've got one of those strange cars with a shaft running through your oil pan, changing the gasket is a matter of dropping the pan, stripping off the old gasket, installing new and bolting the pan back up. That's IT. An hour's work, tops.

Change shops. These guys are both incompetent and dishonest. Can overfilling oil cause an oil pan gasket leak ?
Overfilling won't cause a pan gasket to leak. Especially since you said ';it looks like it is overfilled';, I take that to mean it may not be overfull by very much. You should take a look at it yourself or get another mechanic to make sure it isn't an improperly tightened oil filter or drain plug. I sure wouldn't take the word of a scammer who wants three hundred dollars to replace a pan gasket.
It could,it also could cause the engine to smoke and use oil.Too much oil can be sucked into the crank case ventilation system. Do you do your own maintenance ?? Warm the engine, drain the oil. What does the owners manual say about the amount of oil, ?? how many quarts ?? Only add the amount of quarts the manual says with filter change also.

After the drain and refill with the recommended amount of oil, run the engine for a minute or so, turn it off let it set about 5 minutes, now pull out the dip stick, wipe it off, put it back in. Now pull out the stick. Look at the marks on the stick.Sometimes the marks aren't correct.NOW MARK THE STICK at the level it's at now. That will be the correct mark If you do everything I have talked about above. Hope this helps...and buy the way to answer your question your oil pan is made to hold oil if its over filled. It's not going to cause a pan leak. The gasket must be bad. Take it to the correct level. What's an oil change cost, 20 bucks ?? new gasket, $300.00 ???
No overfilling wouldnt cause that, it would casue oil to get past the piston rings and u would be burning oil. It sounds like you might just need a new oil pan gasket but it could be that your PCV valve is clogged and pressure is building up in the crankcase but if that was the case you would most likely have oil leaking everywhere. But if your oil pan gasket is weak then it will escape through the weakest link.
Yes, it will leak. Usually it starts to seap out and just run down the side of the engine/transmission. Or in your case the gasket looks fuzzy all around. People do not notice this and most mechanic shops wont tell a customer this because it's hard to tell a customer that they have a potential leak. Now that it's overfilled, you will see it on the ground.
it can do more then make the oil pan leak, overfilling can blow the oil seals out and any other gaskets as well.if the pan gasket is leaking, try to tighten it up yourself, all you need is a ratchet, socket and a long extension, then just snug up each bolt.
usually no, it doesn't because their isn't pressure being pushed in the oil pan ecause their is a pcv valve that relieves the pressure in the crank case and oil pan. It could just be a fasulty job .Same thing's happened to me befor to.
