i need to take off oil pan on an older ford tractor. it has two large horizontal bolts through the motor mount and the front of the pan. how do i support the motor to get the pan off?Take off oil pan on a ford tractor?
I did have to do that once on an old 8N Ford.
I did it under a tree... and used a chain fall to support the engine overhead while I pulled the pan... but I had a great big Oak with very strong branches...
Just a thought... - Good Luck!Take off oil pan on a ford tractor?
Not a very good answer, but at least an attempt. Do you have a garage/barn that you can hang a hoist, and attach it to the engine? No? How about a buddy that might have one of those swing-set looking affairs that the tractor can be pulled under, and a hoist attached? I gotta' say this, even though it's apparent, BE CAREFUL! Good way to lose some fingers, arm, or your life, if it falls! Hope it works out.
Edit: Also find a way to block it up, even if it's a 'hoecky' set-up, it could give you a few seconds to get outta' there in case it should fall.
You shouldn't have to lift the motor up high at all. Get a floor jack and a block of wood and place it under the motor away from the oil pan.Take it slow and easy.
