Does anyone know were the oil filter is located at on a 2000 nissan xterra and oil pan?
Remove that skid pan panel 5 10mm bolts 4 cly or V-6? 4cly the filter is difficult access from below on the passengers side behind the alternator. V.6 once the skid plate is off you should see everything you need.
Does an all-rubber oil pan gasket install dry?
I purchased a Felpro oil pan gasket for my Jeep's 4.0 (1990 XJ) and was wondering if it installs completely dry or needs some RTV.
Also, I'm having a heck of a time lining the sucker up to get the bolts in...any advice?
Thanks!Does an all-rubber oil pan gasket install dry?
Some manufacturers advise a small dab of sealer on each corner of the gasket. I don't know what Jeep says. Better check out the repair manual. You can see a number of them at the library if you don't want to buy one.Does an all-rubber oil pan gasket install dry?
one trick is to use dabs of grease here and there to help hold the gasket in place when installing. thats how they tell u to install trans pan gaskets. u shouldn't neen any sealant on the rubber gasket itself, just the corners where the gaskets join
I just checked my Jeep manual and it says position the gasket on the pan with gasket spray and use generous amounts of RTV sealant on the corners where the gaskets join. i'm assuming its a 4pc gasket for the I6 engine. the grease trick would work if you don't have gasket spray.
Put a little rtv on it to make is stick and a little easier to line up.
Dry. Stick a couple of bolts thru holes to hold in place.
yeah

Is it okay to save vegetable oil that used to make pan fried chicken?
I was going to put it in a empty plastic bottle. Is it okay to save vegetable oil that used to make pan fried chicken?
yes thats fineIs it okay to save vegetable oil that used to make pan fried chicken?
I wouldn't save it. If you used it to cook something it would make your generation sick.
When I was growing up there was a can on the back of the stove where all the lard and beacon fat went. If fat was need to fry something that is where it came.
Vegetable oil? Well there was Crisco, but it was only used for baking. Only animal fat for frying.
Refrigeration was iffy at best, ice box.
I say the younger people have been raised in very clean conditions and can not take on the bacteria and germs us old f@rts can.
it doesn't hurt to save it if you strain it, but only as long as you would save the chicken itself cuz it will go rancid eventually. my mom used to save that stuff and even our dog wouldn't eat it. i know that vegetable oil is getting expensive, but seriously, would you want to eat fried chicked from grease that had been cooled and reheated at a restaurant for full price? so why would you eat that at home? if you pour it hot, please don't burn yourself!!!!
You can, but it is best not to. It's not the vegetable oil that will spoil, but the egg and other ingredients that end up in it. I always throw this kind of stuff away.

Sirloin Tip thinly sliced. How to cook it...a little oil in a pan? Quickly?
Is it tender?
Company coming - They can't have onions or spices.
I just need a recipe to cook it plain. I don't know if it is tender or a tough cut that needs long cooking. I have read that it is pretty tender, but it looks tough - no marbleing. (spellcheck says that is correct)Sirloin Tip thinly sliced. How to cook it...a little oil in a pan? Quickly?
I would saute them slowly in olive oil or butter on medium and covered.Sirloin Tip thinly sliced. How to cook it...a little oil in a pan? Quickly?
Here is a great recipe for sirloin tip. It only uses salt and pepper, and comes with all the instructions. If it's thinly slices, you won't have to cook it too long, but if it's tough, you might need too.
http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/salt_p鈥?/a>
If they can handle garlic, fry it shortly in the olive oil, remove it with a slotted spoon then add the sirloin. It will cook fast. Drain off fat. Adding a bit of beef broth and hoison (sp?) sauce at the end, heating and stirring will add some nice flavor.
Might be too tough. Why not try a flank steak? You can marinate 2 - 3 (depending upon how many are coming) and grill quickly. This cut slices very well.
You can probably grill on your stove top as well.
I usually buy a strip steak or a t-bone, which I sautee on my stove top (french style). Use olive oil or butter to cook with.
ok cook it on a grill
quickly? you ask us and dare to hurry us? you ungrateful sh!t.
I will use salt %26amp; pepper then in a very hot pan with olive oil I'll stir fry it.
What about a little cream of mushroom or instead tomato soup. Either it will have to be very quick or simmered in liquid. Maybe you could do an au jus and make open faced sandwiches.
Cook it in a wok if u can..... how bout just salt and pepper?
Beef Olives.
Make up some stuffing and wrap with the meat.Secure with skewers. Brown off in a pot and add some stock, and cover. Simmer, turning from time to time, about 30 minutes.

sugar
metal bottle cap (for making holes)
Directions: Warm the cooking oil in a deep frying pan. Fashion the biscuit dough into nice doughy blobs. Cut out dough nut holes with bottle cap. Place dough into pan then immediately begin to flip them over with a spatula or other flipping instrument of your choice. Once the dough is a light golden brown, remove them from the pan. I use at least 3 inches of oil, because when it drops in you don't want it sticking to the bottom.

Do you think to fix an oil leak in the upper oil pan of a contour should cost a lot maybe just $200.00 ?
If they have to remove the front part of the exhaust system or a motor brace $200 is fair.
Is it pouring oil all over your driveway, or is the leak really seepage?
Many repair places are slow and looking for anything they can up sell a customer.
Even if it drips a little there is no emergency. Check your oil level once a week and see if it loses over a quart. If it does get it fixed, if the oil level barely changes, save the cash.Do you think to fix an oil leak in the upper oil pan of a contour should cost a lot maybe just $200.00 ?
the pan itself and the gasket total should be about 70 total and the labor should be about 1 hour max....so about 50-100 for labor..so that seems about right

To replace the oil pan, will I have to take the engine out?
Since you asked the question in boats and boating I am assuming the engine is in a boat. Also I am going to assume that it is an inboard motor and not a big boat like a yacht. So with all of that assumed I will say yes it must be removed from the boat to get the oil pan off. But if it looks like you have enough room to get it off there would be no harm in trying. if it works great. If the engine needs serviced it is worth a try. Hop I have been helpful. To replace the oil pan, will I have to take the engine out?
Depending on the space that the engine is in, you may be able to disconnect the shaft, fuel lines, and exhaust, and lift it high enough to change it. Depending on the engine, this could be as little as 6 inches or as much as 12. It's not going to be a pretty or clean job, but it sure is better than hauling the engine out of the boat!To replace the oil pan, will I have to take the engine out?
Depends on the car's make and model and year. Some cars you can replace the oil pan without removing the engine or doing anything special. Some cars you can support the engine from above with a hoist without completely removing the engine and change out the oil pan, and still some cars the only way to do it is to take the engine out.
Without knowing what car you're talking about it's hard to give any further details.
yes you would but try to go from the bottom first

Is it better to use oil to coat a glass pan for baking, or butter?
I have been using a glass pan for baking twice recently, and both times, the edges come out darker than what I would like. I have been using oil to coat the pan as well, should I use butter instead for better results? Is it better to use oil to coat a glass pan for baking, or butter?
Oil is better than butter but better yet, use a little solid shortening (like Crisco) spread on with a paper towel and then flour the pan. Shake off the excess flour. If you are baking something chocolate, use cocoa powder instead of flour. I personally use a product like Pam that has flour in it. I also use a product by Wilton called ';Cake Release';. Happy baking. Is it better to use oil to coat a glass pan for baking, or butter?
no, use the cooking spray, like PAM
try olive oil and if u r baking a cake try flouring it also.it all depends on what u r baking.
oil or butter would both be fine,,,but I would use the oil,,,put a piece of foil around the edge and remove half way through baking,,it will prevent the darker edges
Use either one then coat with a light dusting of flour

Why do cookies bake better without any oil/spray on the pan?
Why do my cookies bake better without any oil compared to when I bake with Pam/Crisco?Why do cookies bake better without any oil/spray on the pan?
The cookies will spread out more on the oiled/greased cookie sheet and it will fry the bottom of the cookie making it brown too fast. Why do cookies bake better without any oil/spray on the pan?
Because Crisco does not have as many fats, the fats in the oil help the cookies bake better :]
Do they? I don't recall ever making cookies--
I make cakes, instead.
That's an interesting question!
Do you ever read a recipe.

How do i remove an oil pan from a 1992 econoline?

You have to jack up the engine. That way the pan will clear the crossmember. How do i remove an oil pan from a 1992 econoline?
an econoline.. shiiiitttttt...
loosen the motor mounts before you jack up the motor. jack it up using a block of wood to distribute the weight till it's high enough to clear the crossmember. might have to remove the fuel lines if there's not enough play to lift the engine that high without damaging them. i would go reallly realllllly slow for just that reason
make sure you change your oil pump while you're at it. i have a 1990 f150 and the oil pump is going bad and i keep hearing it's a common problem

How do I get oil off a stainless steel pan?

soak it in dilluted vinegar. put 4 cups of water and put 6 tea spoons of white vinegar in the pan .keep it overnight. scrub with strong steel scrub and dry diswashing detergent. dont use liquid detergent.
use soe vinegar and scrub it without adding water and then also if doesnt go add some beaching powder and scrub
If it is stainless steel with no other special coating you can spray a little oven cleaner on it and let it sit for awhile. Just don't get the oven celaner on anything but the metal. I have done my outside because of the fumes or you can stick your in the oven and turn the exhaust fan on.perfect makeup

How do you get a whole pan of vegetable oil out of a carpet?
Try fresh lemon juice, lemon juice breaks the oil off. Squeeze a few lemons out onto the carpet and leave it for a few hours, then wash normal like you washed carpet and let dry. Lemon also gives a fresh smell to the carpet. Good luck! How do you get a whole pan of vegetable oil out of a carpet?
Liquid dish soap will cut the grease, get a good brand and mix with very warm water. Use a wet/dry vac or carpet cleaning machine to remove excess moiture. May need to be repeated a couple of times. How do you get a whole pan of vegetable oil out of a carpet?
Sounds like a real disaster. I don't know if that CAN be fixed! Sop up as much as you can, with newspaper. Then rent a steam-cleaner. Good luck!
First say a prayer. Then try a carpet shampooer, but instead of using regular carpet soap fill the soap receptacle a third of the way with dish soap and the rest of the way up w/ hot water. Repeat as many times as you can til you have sucked as much out as you can.
I don't think you can - not in that volume - no even with a shampooer.
It's probably soaked through the carpet padding and into the wood below. And unfortunately, it would always hold dirt and dust, even if you replaced that section of the carpet.
I'd suggest cutting out that piece of the carpet and the padding and scrubbing the wood underneath before replacing the padding and carpet.
Bad luck.
Carefully pick up the pan making sure not to spill and move it away from the carpeted area.

If i drive with a motor flush in my oil pan will it mess up my engine?
i put a motor flush in my 1999 ford f150 and was gonna change the oil but cant find the filter my dad said to wait till saturday but i need my truck and it still has the motor flush in it can i still drive itIf i drive with a motor flush in my oil pan will it mess up my engine?
NO NO NO, I seen a motor blow up because it was run over 10 mins with this stuff in it, I will never use that stuff again, it is basically kerosene, it will eat the bearings up fast. I only use ATF to flush one if I have to. It won't hurt nothing and loosens up any sludge. If i drive with a motor flush in my oil pan will it mess up my engine?
FYI -- motor flush was designed for engines that ran with open crankcase breathers and on non-detergent oil, long before PCV valves and detergent oils were even introduced.
I doubt the motor flush formula used today is the same as it was back then, but who knows, you didn't bother to mention which you used and most of you seem to think that they are all the same?
I noticed that no one offered the opinion to just drain the oil and add fresh to dilute it, which is what I would have done and advised.
I wonder just how old the engine that blew up with flush in it was?
I have never seen a modern engine that even needs motor flush, I add a pint of marvel mystery oil to the crankcase if I hear a stuck lifter or add a quart of ATF to the oil and you can drive on either one.
The engine has build up of unburnt gas, crude, and built up oil sludge. There is small oil flow passeges in the engine. That oil drains from the top of the engine (lifters and cams etc.) to the bottom of the engine (oil pan). This is vital to lubricate the engine.
Oil Flush breaks loose these builds ups and can fill or block the oil's return path to the oil pan. It is not wise to do this.
It would be wiser to change oil and a filter with clean oil. The oil has cleaners in it that safely remove dirt that gets in the engine cylinders from combustion. Then re change it and the engine is safely cleaned that is o.k. with your car maker's recommendations.
Every Owner's manaul had the car maker saying they do not recommend additives. But they do recommend regular oil changes.
Also the motor flush is close to kerosene, that has very little lubricating quality like your oil. It also thins your oil. The motor flush recommends 5 minute idle, not driving. So your driving is putting extra wear and tear on the engine. Another no-no.
I would not drive it much with that stuff in it. If you drain the motor flush with out changing the filter now you will just have to do it all again when you find your filter. We used to put kerosene in our motors and run it a short time and the motor would smoke pretty bad. It didn't hurt the motor just smoking from the kerosene. In my opinion it would be best to get under the truck and find that filter.
no you drive with that **** in your engine and you will need a new motor in minutes tell me why did you even think of using that rubbish a friend used it against my advice and now he needs a new head on his motor the camshafts seized the only engines i recommend that for is new engines and even then there has to be a good reason like changing types of oil or something along those lines DO NOT USE IT on older engines
its not good to do that...since motor flush is mostly kerosene it will fu@k up ur valve stem seals.....change the oil and leave the old filter on then change again this weekend....or go to the store and buy filter for 4 bucks....up to u....
yes is will burn out the bearings, and alot of the oil pump screen will stop up if there was alot of slug.

Oil Pan Plug - Do People In Arizona / Texas Have It?
Apparently in most of Europe they do not have the plug
In the North of North America they have the plug to heat the oil pan
I was just wondering since it is never cold in Texas or Phoenix (to the extent as where you need to heat your darn oil) do they have the plug?
Would dealers try to save every penny they can?
Alright THANK YOUOil Pan Plug - Do People In Arizona / Texas Have It?
All engine oil pans have a plug to drain the oil.Oil Pan Plug - Do People In Arizona / Texas Have It?
I just stuff a little bird in my oil pan for a plug!
First of all, an oil pan plug is usually just a threaded bolt, stock on all vehicles. A HEATED plug is an option, not stock. I don't know where you got your information, but most car manufacturers( in the USA) won't put on something in an area that doesn't need it. My jeep has a block heater, though, it's up near the top of the engine, and has an electric cord with AC plug coming out of it. It was an Arizona car, why did it have it? Looked factory. I don't know. Someone could have ordered it. It may have been cheap enough or a package deal so that it came with it. I live in Virginia, so don't really need it. Alaska or Maine people might use it. I don't .
But, as far as the oil pan plug, only aftermarket would probably make one, for most normal use, that's a bad place to put one, I'd think. From what I've seen in Virginia, most cars with oil pan plugs are just a bolt, no heater. That'd be a rarity to see an oil heater anywhere in Virginia ( mid-Atlantic state), mild weather zone.
i own a shop and i have seen these things on cars here in Tennessee, and it doesn't get that cold here, but a lot of people have moved here and re-tired,and they had them added while they lived in the north, but even some people here actually have them they do help with the cold starting problems on some cars and trucks, you,d probably be surprised at some of the vehicles there on,good luck hope this helps.
most vehicles that have plugs are diesel.only if you live in extreme cold you would need this. and it is a option on a vehicle you have to pay for.

When I cook something in my metal pan with oil (like meat), there is brown stuff leftover. Is that Tarnish?
all depends on what your pan is made of. Stainless steel pans will often have a brown discoloration left when cooked at high heats, you just have to get stainless steel cleaner and clean them, constantly. that is, if you mind the discoloration, but it's no big deal if you don't mind it. I doubt you're talking about Fond, not found, or pan drippings, which is used to make a gravy. and it is important what your pan is made of, because your different pans do different things at different temps. I'm guessing it's either aluminum, or stainless steel, and in that case, when at high heat, they will have a brown discoloration, as I stated. if copper, copper tarnishes very easily, and you have to constantly clean it with a copper cleaner. When I cook something in my metal pan with oil (like meat), there is brown stuff leftover. Is that Tarnish?
You don't say what kind of metal it is. Steel and aluminum don't tarnish, and cast iron will rust if not dried quickly or enameled. However, even with oil, what you're cooking can still stick a little bit, so what you're finding is probably just burned-on food. It should clean up just fine with a scouring pad. When I cook something in my metal pan with oil (like meat), there is brown stuff leftover. Is that Tarnish?
That ';brown stuff'; is called found and it's crispy bits of seasoning and blood. It is also the stuff that makes cream and pan gravy so good. There are several ways to remove it and to use it.
1) ';deglasing';. Add wine, water, stock, broth or juice to lift up the found and thicken by reduxing (simmering until the liquid is 1/2) or cornstarch.
2) Roux. Add 1-2 tablespoons of flour to the pan until you have a nice thick paste then add milk, cream, stock, broth or combo until you have a classic pan gravy.
it is what makes gravy...add1/4 cup water and stir and boil for a minute. serve over mashed potatoes
It's not tarnish. I don't remember the name for it, but it's similar to drippings. You scrape it and mix it with wine or equal amounts of flour and butter to make an awesome sauce.
ST
That sounds rust, but when you cook meat you always have something left in the pan so you will have the drippings to make the gravy with, add a little corn starch and water stir and make the gravy
it is a mixture of sugar and fat with a little protein and some flavors. There is a lot of flavor in it if depending on the temperature you allow it to get. Some people add a little water, then flour adn it is gravy. To get rid of it, just put a little water with it and boil it over high heat, then rinse it away. If you do, you are missing something good.

Is it normal for a 2005 chevy aveo to need a new serpentine belt and have an oil pan leak at 36,000 miles?
At 44,000 miles the thermostat literally blew out of the engine with no warning from heat gauge or dashboard lights.
Dealer is giving me this is normal wear talk.
I should have bought a Hyundai. Is it normal for a 2005 chevy aveo to need a new serpentine belt and have an oil pan leak at 36,000 miles?
to my knowledge, serpentine belts are to be periodically checked, when doing oil changes. The actual parts can not be predicted as to when they will go out, but as a rule of thumb, around 60,000 miles they should be changed regardless. As far as an oil leak and 36,000 miles who knows, cheap cars, cheap expectations. There is no guarantee when it comes to cars. You can buy a Caddy, have problems, you can buy a golf cart, and run forever. Total unpredictability. One thing is for certain, maintenance is a key to help prevent things from going south. No a total guarantee. I perscribe to the Fram oil filter slogans when it comes to cars. PAY ME NOW, OR PAY ME LATER!!! either way, your going to pay.Is it normal for a 2005 chevy aveo to need a new serpentine belt and have an oil pan leak at 36,000 miles?
I agree with the other answers, but point out you have put a lot of miles on a 95. Your driving may classify as severe conditions which does shorten the time between maintenance events.
The Aveo is built in Korea and is a P.O.S. You should have bought a Honda.
no!
that Aveo is built in the same place as the Hyundai, but since it is a Chevy you didn't get the 100,000 mile warranty
Normal at 36k, not really. Serpatine belts usually last between 50 and 100k miles before needing replaced. The oil pan leak indicates a bad seal somewhere. Neither one should happen unless the car has been driven especially hard or under Very extreme conditions.
Good luck!

2001 ford ranger oil pan leak 6 cylinder 3.0 how hard to remove oil pan?
I was told I had to unbolt motor mount , lift motor to remove oil pan, front of gasket is blown out, but still atached. why?pcv looks good. could presure buildup be coming from other source? or bad gasket,or installed wrong? thanks!2001 ford ranger oil pan leak 6 cylinder 3.0 how hard to remove oil pan?
I dont know how much experience the other dude has, but i have 12 years as a ASE Tech and yes you do have to remove the top or bottom bolts of your motor mounts and raise the engine up enough to clear the oil pan past the front differential. you may also have to remove the upper Plenum to get the engine to raise enough to clear. Take head in the folks you ask questions to, you could end up braking alot more parts through neglect. The easiest way is to go buy a 15 dollar chilton or haynes manual to cover your vehicle.2001 ford ranger oil pan leak 6 cylinder 3.0 how hard to remove oil pan?
I've never had to do the oil pan gasket on a 3L ranger before, but I have had to do them in the past. I think you would have better luck looking at a Ranger forum site like www.therangerstation.com rather then asking questions here. The truth is, on some vehicles you are right, you do have to remove some very abstract parts to take things off. I've seen it where you've had to remove parts of the exhaust or cooling system to do a simple task, and that makes it not so simple. I'm a member of the ranger station, and I have found thousands of useful tips that I would have otherwise been asking here, and I have been getting answers that are a lot better. The guys there are either on the same side as you, needing help and asking guys with other Rangers and there are the guys who know how to fix that problem and are willing to help out. I would try that site for an exact explination. (I've seen som oil pans, where to do the gasket on them, theres over 7 hours connected to it.)
ha ha - no you dont you climb or roll under your vehicle and unscrew the bottom screw - i cant think of one reason you would have to remove your motor mounts to remove your oil pan - i cant think of a reason off the top of my head to remove your motor mounts unless your replacing your engine - or a very large portion of it -
try to replace your gasket theyre not that hard to do ( i can do it ) who ever told you to go through that i wouldnt suugest listning to them when it comes to cars - if its a garage definitely dont take your buisiness back there again

First thing to do, is to remove the oil drain plug, from the oil pan, and catch the oil, in a suitable container, for reuse, later. Once all the oil has drained out, then, you may remove the bolts, that hold the oil pan, onto the bottom of the engine. Once you have this done, you'll need to clean the mating surface, (where oil pan attaches to engine block). You'll also need a new oil pan gasket, if your old one, had one. Some, just have RTV sealant, but, I am thinking, that yours has a hasket. Actually, it would not be a bad idea, to use the RTV sealant, with the oil pan gasket, for a better seal. Once you have the gasket in place, on the new oil pan, set it in place, and, reinstall the oil pan bolts. Once that is done, reinstall the oil pan drain plug, then, refill the engine with oil, and, check dipstick, and, add oil, if needed, to bring up to full. Now, start engine, and, look for leaks, around oil pan. If leaks are found, tighten the oil pan bolts, a little more, then restart engine, and recheck for leaks. If none are found, you are good to go.How do i drop a old oil pan down to replace it with a new oil pan 1993 ford ranger xL3.0 4x4 truck?
if your need to ask you should take it some where have them do it. you can get hurt and you dont have the right tools for the job.
Sorry, pull the engine

Cost to repair busted oil pan?
2006 Chevy Cobalt. We swerved to miss a dog, ran up on the curb and busted the oil pan. We barely got home before all the oil had leaked, so, we're just going to put some more oil in and then drive it to the shop across the street, any idea of a price range on this sort of replacement?Cost to repair busted oil pan?
Ok sweety,The oil pan is Aluminum or Magnesium. Dealer part ,over $100.oo for part +labor at $90.oo a hour to change to do at a dealer. Sorry,Does that help.Unless You know a welding shop that will weld it,but you still have to ';take it off';,then after is fixed put back.Alot of work.(depending on size of hole).';small'; not over a half dollar.Cost to repair busted oil pan?
go to your local salvage yard and pick up one for about 30 bucks. also inspect the oil pump as well, you might have dameged it also.
and one more thing, i know it might sound cruel, but next time dont swerve for the dog, its softer than a tree or another object. had a freind who swerved to miss a deer once and wrapped his brand-new dodge truck around a big oak tree, dang near killed him.
Maybe your warranty covers it, or your insurance. You do mean replace instead of repair it, don't you? That'd be my choice. God Bless you.
i just replaced an oil pump and pan on my truck myself, i was going to pay someone to do it for me but the cheapest estimate i got was close to $600, and my truck is an '89. in my opinion, if you have a family member or friend that can do the repairs, thats probably your best bet.
good luck.
since its a fairly new vehicle, the oil pan is probably a little expensive. have no idea how much. but the labor will probably run you about $150 to $200 plus the cost of the panperfect makeup

When you make pancakes on the skillet, do i need to add butter or oil to the pan?
It's NOT a nonstick panWhen you make pancakes on the skillet, do i need to add butter or oil to the pan?
I generally give a little spray of something like PAM. Don't use oil, the pancakes will soak it up, yuck. Same with butter but if you like the butter taste it'll work, don't use too much, just lightly butter before each batch. When you make pancakes on the skillet, do i need to add butter or oil to the pan?
yes either worrkss otherwise theyll stick n u dont want thatt mess ;)
either one is fine.
i use butter cause the pancakes turn out fluffier then when u use oil
I always use a little oil and then wipe it out with a paper towel.
The spray oil is a no no for non stick. Technically you do not need any fat.
yes butter or margarine.
i use butter, just don't over heat. they'll brown nicely. use a heavy weight pan.
I usually melt the butter for the pancake recipe in the skillet I'm going to use and after I've used a rubber spatula (silicon so it doesn't melt) to scrape the butter out into the mixing bowl I give the skillet a good swipe or three with a paper towel or napkin to get the excess off.
Yes, or you can add a non-stick spray like Pam. Personally, I like to use a non-stick spray that is butter flavored. Yummy for pancakes or even hash browns.
Yes you do, I would add a little oil. Butter will burn.

My car only leaks a bit of oil when left on Could this be dew to a faulty oil pan gasket & valve cover gasket?
I just took my newly bought 1996 Nissan 200sx to a mechanic today and I suspected that my small motor oil leak was dew to too much oil that the previous owner put in. The mechanic told me that the oil was not too excessive (although to me it seemed like it was since the oil was way over the line on the dip stick) and after inspecting the car he told me that I would need to replace the oil pan gasket and the valve cover gasket in order to fix the problem. The cost would be $270. Does this sound like the correct solution to my problem and is this mechanic charging me fairly? He seems like an ok fellow, but I'd just like to see what you all think. Thank you all for your help!My car only leaks a bit of oil when left on Could this be dew to a faulty oil pan gasket %26amp; valve cover gasket?
The over full problem shouldn't cause a leak. It could cause other problems though. Gaskets on older cars do some times crack and start leaking. The price seems fair for parts and labor. My car only leaks a bit of oil when left on Could this be dew to a faulty oil pan gasket %26amp; valve cover gasket?
I think $270 is fair price if he is paying for the parts. I would be able to tell you if the gaskets need to be changed if had seen the vehicle, but it's so easy to see when open the hood or you look underneath the vehicle...if there is any leak, you would see some oil residue.
Good luck!
is the oil filter screwed on tight?
dew (n.) Water droplets condensed from the air, usually at night, onto cool surfaces.
Could this be due to a bad gasket?
Yes, it surely could be one or the other, depending on where the leak seems to be coming from.
Sounds like you aren't sure of this mechanic, if that is the case, get a second opinion.
Get some engine degreaser at the parts store, spray the engine warm, and spray it everywhere you can (now days don't have to worry about distributor and carb) may take 3 or 4 cans of it, it's cheap, let it set for about 15 minutes, then use a water hose with a fairly strong spray and clean the heck out of it, then you can see exactly where the oil is coming from.
this doe not sound like you engine is overfilled with oil. as far as $270 to get your problem fixed this sounds more than fair. you obviously doubt the mechanic you took your car to so i would suggest getting a second opinion. from what you have suggested it could be a number of issues...leaky gasket, loose or cracked oil filter, a seal, or a bad oil sending unit/gauge. there could be other issues, but these are some of the obvious things that come to mind

You know when using oil in a frying pan and it goes black and dirty so you have to throw it away and pour out?
more oil are you supposed to use tissue to wipe away the grease?Or is there a special kind of cloth? You know when using oil in a frying pan and it goes black and dirty so you have to throw it away and pour out?
Use a paper towelYou know when using oil in a frying pan and it goes black and dirty so you have to throw it away and pour out?
If you have a non-fry sticking pan (like mine) rather than a non-stick frying pan then Brillo is the only way to go.
Use tissue to wipe the grease and then wash it with liquid and then rinse warm water before using the black and dirty pan
Try not to use any oil.
You can add some water with soap...and put it over the soft fire...until the dark comes out....if it does not goes out with this technic try rubing the dark place with a really soft sandpaper...
if the frying pan is made of stainless still be careful to rub it in the direction of the design of the button (see the button of the frying pan first)
I scrape as much of the solid oil off with a spatula first, then use a paper towel to remove the rest. Be sure to dispose of the oil properly - do not put it down your drain. I keep an old coffee can in the refrigerator to hold used oil and grease. When it is full, I toss the whole can away.
if there's quite a bit of oil..I suggest pouring into a can , let it sit until the oil hardens into fat then toss in garbage. never pour oil down the sink drain.
Use a clean paper towl and through the oil in a glass container or something to hold the hot oil. Don't put it down the drain. Then add th oil and continue.
As said,paper towel
i use kithchen roll/paper towels on mine, i find it cleans better when warm(the pan)though.
Try this: First wipe away all the grease you can with paper towel. Then, if anything is still stuck/fried on, put just enough water in the pan to cover everything, then put it on the stove and slowly bring up the heat until the water begins to a slow boil. When this happens, take a spatula and begin to pull the gunk up. Basically, what you'll be doing is 'boiling off' the gunk. (Momma does this and it works.)
One trick I heard of (but have never had the chance to try) is this: Put some water in the pan and then place a drier sheet (ie: a Bounce dryer sheet) in the bottom and let sit overnight. In the morning, the gunk is supposed to come right off.
use a paper towel. Do not throw the grease down the drain as it will clog up your pipes!
Kitchen towel (paper) is easiest. Pouring oil down the sink is really bad because it clogs your pipes and the whole neighbourhoods pipes too!!!

Is cooking chicken in a pan with olive oil considered frying?
im not too sure on all the different terms in cooking. Is cooking chicken in a pan with olive oil considered frying?
Yes.... it is. =)Is cooking chicken in a pan with olive oil considered frying?
If you put any oil (including olive oil) in a pan and cook in it, it's called ';frying';. A little bit of oil rubbed on the pan is not a bad way of cooking (stir fries start this way); it's when you deep fry your food that the practice becomes unhealthy. Frying with olive oil is much much better than using beef fat, for instance.
I call it pan frying even when u do french toast in light oil covering pan its good it cooks evenly food with layer of olive oil and it burns up as it cooks and gives food a butter flavor
actually it's sauteeing unless the oil covers the chicken then it's frying
Cooking chicken? I don't know but choking the chicken is the same as beating the meat.
yes, it is pan frying. any food that is cooked with oil on pan in high heat is pan frying.

Does the oil pan from the obd1 h22 fit the obd2 h22?
If the bolt holes will line up and there is no interfernce with the oil pick up tube it should be fine.Does the oil pan from the obd1 h22 fit the obd2 h22?
OBD is On Board Diagnostics and does not change engine block design. You're block should be the exact same. So yes, it should fit.

I was just quoted $600 to fix an oil pan gasket leak. Is this reasonable?
What is it on? Do you have to take motor mount bolts loose? If not you're getting screwed. What make of vehicle? What size of engine? Need more info to give appropriate answerI was just quoted $600 to fix an oil pan gasket leak. Is this reasonable?
It depends upon the model. However, it does seem a little high.
Permit me to probe a bit.
Many older cars leak oil...many not so older cars leak oil too. I have oil spots on my garage and driveway (I've got kids with older, but reliable cars). The spots look huge! However, in all cases (there are 4 cars), the leak does not amount to even one quart loss between an oil change every 4-5000 miles. They are messy though.
Oil comes from all over the place...valve covers, oil pan...The reason why I'm adding this is that you can spend a great deal on money chasing oil leaks and still have an oil leak when it's all done.
Now if you bottomed out on something and ripped a gash in the oil pan...that's different. If you're just an extremely neat person and can't stand to see the spots...well it's cost/benefit thing.
FYI: 2 of the vehicles I've got are late GM. GM's, I'm told, are very leak prone. They just are. Excellent drive train...but leaky. I get post cards from Chavez thanking me for keeping them on the road.
All this blabbing is to try to convey the thought...don't fix it unless you feel as though you have to. AND keep your check book handy...they'll be more.
Hope it works out for you. Good Luck.I was just quoted $600 to fix an oil pan gasket leak. Is this reasonable?
omg... what kind of car do you have? i know to get a brand new oil pan for my civic is 100.00.... 600.00 sound a little out of whack?! i would call around your area, what exactly is it? like an o ring or an actually gasket? i cant see a gasket costing that much either!!! i would buy the gasket and sealer and do it your self, they arent too hard to put on, i did my spark plug and head gasket by myself. :) i think i paid about 15.00-25.00 for everything directly from honda!
Shop around to get more quote on oil pan gasket. Most mechanic alway rip people off. Also call auto part to find out how much the oil pan gasket. Its depend whats kind of car do you have.
hell no .......that's way too much .... gasket will cost you $20.00 to 30.00.. take it to another mechanic... it should cost you at least 150.00 the most .. good luck !!!

Does anyone know how to get a stripped oil bolt off the oil pan? It is on a '99 grand am?
Is the bolt head stripped or are the threads stripped?
If the bolt head is stripped, use a pair of locking pliers(vice-grips) and replace with a new bolt, you can buy them at a discount auto parts store such as Advance Auto or AutoZone.
If the threads are stripped, wedge a flat head screw driver or a putty knife between the bolt head and the oil pan and pry out as you turn the bolt out. Once you remove the bolt, buy a tap at either auto parts store and re-thread the hole and replace with a new bolt.
What ever you do don't wiggle the bolt back and forth, this will enlarge the hole and then you'll have to remove the oil pan to fix.Does anyone know how to get a stripped oil bolt off the oil pan? It is on a '99 grand am?
try a pair of vise grips, and then buy a new plug. or you could try a smaller socket, hammer it on and then hopefully it'll bring it loose.Does anyone know how to get a stripped oil bolt off the oil pan? It is on a '99 grand am?
I do but I would have to do it myself, sorry. auto tech. 29 yrs
Try to drill it with a small bit, then use an easyout.
depends if the bolt head is rounded off or the bolt is broke in the block.if you rounde the head off, take a hammer and hit the head of the bolt, hard a few times, see if you can get the socket back on,and if not try a standard and metric socket that will drive on there with a hammer, the hammer blows will help loosen the bolt.if the bolt is missing the head.grind it smooth if possible, and center punch it,drill and tap.if it hole is too big for the repair, get a heli coil from your local parts dealer to repair the hole.
i agree with mister ss. you should pry down while turning.be sure to replace the plug and check the threads in the oil pan. if there damaged you need to make sure they get repaired or it will leak.
Vice Grips.
Try a Tap Set
12 point socket or if all else fail's vise grips and a hammer will do the trick.
take a screwdriver and pry on the bolt as you are turning it out.
Use the smallest 12 point socket that will just fit on the end of the head. Hit it on the rest of the way with a hammer. Then break the bolt loose.
i have done this before. go to napa pick up a new drain plug, then use vise grips. works great.perfect makeup

Can I replace the oil pan gasket on my car myself?
I have a 93 mercury sableCan I replace the oil pan gasket on my car myself?
Some cars are easier to do than others. Some have very good accessability whereas others the engine must be unhooked and lifted somewhat. It is also difficult to place and hold the rubber pieces on the ends of a typical pan. What I am saying is that its a big pain in the ***. Check in your area for a vocational high school or secondary tech school that teaches automotive technology you may be able to get it done free labor, but, you'll probably have to be without the car for a whileCan I replace the oil pan gasket on my car myself?
yup...get messy n clean up
If you have to ask this question, then I would advise against it!
If you have the time, equipment and space, you can do it.
Sure. It's pretty easy. Go to your local auto parts store.
Get a Cjilton's manuel on how to repair your car, or any other manuel they sell for the make and model of your car.
They have easy to follow step by step instructions.
The auto parts stor is the place to get all the tools you'll need,
as well as the gasket.
It took me 2 hours to replace mine and I'm a woman.
If you have access to an oxy/acetylene torch, yes. The hardest part of the job will be to drop the exhaust to enable access to the pan for removal. I would advise you to purchase the pan gasket from the Ford dealer parts department, IF IT'S THE 3.0L V6. It is an updated reuasble type gasket that is MUCH easier to install than the original rubber style one that tends to stretch and push through, which I guess is the reason you need to do this job. It's NOT expensive from the dealer, believe me. But good luck removing the rusted fasteners on the exhaust. Hope this helps. The part number for the gasket from the Ford dealer is 2U1Z-6710-AA for $46.00 Canadian, IF IT'S THE 3.0L V6.
Yes you can but it's a messy job. Jack up the car high enough so you have plenty of room. Follow the specs for tightening sequence and have a good torque wrench. Use lots of Permatex.
Yes you can but you have to be able to lift the car up and have the proper equipment. There are parts underneath the oil pan that will need to be taken off in order to get them out of the way.
yeah it's easy. just remove the oil pan, remove the old gasket material and clean the mating surfaces thoroughly. then stick the new gasket on there with a tube of that blue gasket **** and put the pan back on. you need a torque wrench and a repair manual with the right order for tightening the bolts so you tighten it to the proper specs.

Can I replace an oil pan gasket (FelPro from www.rockauto.com) on an 86 Mustang GT with the engine in the car?
The oil pan is U shaped and fits around a major cross member. Is it possible to get the pan off and a new gasket installed without pulling the engine? The new gasket has a metal core and I am wondering if it is possible to just lower the pan and slide the new gasket in.Can I replace an oil pan gasket (FelPro from www.rockauto.com) on an 86 Mustang GT with the engine in the car?
No. Hook her up to a cherry picker, remove the subframe and then do it with the engine still in position but the cherry picker supporting the engine. That's probably the easiest way so you don't have to disconnect everything. Can I replace an oil pan gasket (FelPro from www.rockauto.com) on an 86 Mustang GT with the engine in the car?
Yes! You will have to jack the car up and locate to oil pan from underneath. It will have approx. 8 to 16 bolts around it. Remove all bolts and remove old gasket. When you put the new one on make sure the gasket is in the right place so all bolts line up with all holes in the gasket. When you tighten it down make sure not to overtighten and work back and forth. (tighten a bolt on the left side then move to the right to tighten the next until all bolts are snug)

Do all oil pan drain plugs take the same size wrench? If so, what? If not, are there many possibilities?
for cars there are 6 common sizes 3 standard 3 metric so 6 wrenches or sockets should cover most modelsDo all oil pan drain plugs take the same size wrench? If so, what? If not, are there many possibilities?
NO they are all different. My Civic and Audi are 17mm and 19mm (I forget which is which).
But in general they are big enough to let the oil drain fast. Just make sure you use the correct size so you don't strip the head.
Good LuckDo all oil pan drain plugs take the same size wrench? If so, what? If not, are there many possibilities?
Probably a dozen possibilities, metric and SAE. 15mm may be the most common I have seen lately.
Try 17 mm, go up or down from there.
No not at all. If you have a 1/2, 9/16 and 5/8, standard size box end wrenches along with 14mm, 15,mm and 16mm you'll have most of them covered.
Large HD trucks, tractors and heavy equipment is another story.
You'd better plan on continuing your set on up to 1'; and metric sizes on up to 25mm.
1/2';
9/16';
15mm
Those are the most common.
Every engine has a different size drain plug. They usually range from 13mm to 17 mm.

How much does it cost to fix a oil pan gasket on a 2002 chrysler sebring ?
No more than two hours labor at any shop. plus the gasket, oil, and filter. About 60.00 in parts 200.00 in labor MAXHow much does it cost to fix a oil pan gasket on a 2002 chrysler sebring ?
I don't know exactly how much, but, the oil pan is pretty easy to access on most cars so it shouldn't be that expensive. You could do it yourself if you don't mind getting dirty.perfect makeup

What tools, parts, and steps would one use to change an oil pan gasket for a 1997 sentra GXE 4 cylinder?
You just need some basic metric tools, a drain pan, the gasket, oil and filter, jack stands, jack, block of wood and gasket sealer because its a very easy job the book time is only 2.0 hours.
Jack up the vehicle and support it with the jack stands.
Drain the oil.
Remove the front exhaust pipe.
Remove the center cross-member.
Remove the left and right front (gussets) brackets.
Raise the trans and engine assembly.

Can you spread oil on a pan and put cookies on top of them so they wont stick.?
Im trying to bake cookies and i dont have any baking sheets or cooking spray so can i spread oil on the pan so the cookies wont stick. Can you spread oil on a pan and put cookies on top of them so they wont stick.?
No you can't, your cookies will pick up the taste of the oil - rub your baking sheet with butter instead.
SACCan you spread oil on a pan and put cookies on top of them so they wont stick.?
Try lightly spreading the cooking sheet with butter. Works better and the cookies will taste much better.
yes you can use oil..but olive oil, when you apply it on the sheet..make sure its a light coat of oil....it wont absorbe the flavor and they will pop right off after they have fully baked..
After spreading the oil....take a paper towel and wipe off the excess oil......so it is lightly coated.....some times I go over a second time with a clean paper towel.
you shouldn't need any oil. Cookie batter generally has so much butter in it, they won't stick.
No, that gives it an unnatractive taste. What I would use is margarin or butter. It works much better.

Oil pan or head gasket on a jetta?
I have a 2002 VW Jetta and i took it to the dealer yesterday the mechanics there said that i needed a new head gasket because my car was leaking oil. Now today I actually go to a local shop and they tell me after doing a compression test there is no way I need a head gasket I just need to replace the oil pan. Does this make any sense? I would think one thing is too far away from the other thing.
Help!Oil pan or head gasket on a jetta?
It is very possible the head gasket is leaking oil. These little over head cam engines do have pressurized oil going to the head. I have changed a few oil leaking head gaskets in my time. A compression test will not show anything connected to the oil system unless the gasket blows out into a cylinder. I've never seen such a thing but, I'm sure it has happened. Then the compression would be high in that cylinder and you'd have smoke and maybe a fouled plug. Whoever you get to do the job, either the head gasket, or the pan gasket, make sure they understand that you want the leak fixed the first time. Don't come back and say well, it needs the other gasket, too. Any half way competent mechanic can find the leak if they take the time. I would trust the dealer first. The local mechanic may not have looked good enough to see the actual source of the oil.Oil pan or head gasket on a jetta?
A lot of shops are ripping people off these days. My parents took their '99 Lumina to a shop and were told they needed well over $700 in repairs (including tranny fluid flushed/replaced + new filter, 2 new tires, etc). They are in a bad financial situation so they had my uncles and grandfather look it over. It needed none of that done. At most, it needed to be realigned in the front. The economy is bad right now so go with the cheaper option. If you continue having problems, then you can get the head gasket replaced but chances are you really don't need it.
go with the oil pan, however you probably only need a pan gasket

What are you supposed to use to oil/butter a frying pan with?
Sorry I'm just a kid I don't cook but next year in home ec 6th grade
ummmm
so what do i use if i'm making french toast
or what if i'm making pancakes
or what if i'm like doing stir fry or something
whats the difference between oils and sprays and butter and stuffWhat are you supposed to use to oil/butter a frying pan with?
the basic differences are in health/calorie-content and in flavor. also, oil can take more heat --butter will burn if you put it on too high of a heat setting. or you can use a combination of the two in order to cook with a high temperature and get the butter's flavor.
i'd use butter for french toast and/or pancakes. olive oil for stir fry. but you can use nonstick spray for just about anything. a lot of it is just a matter of personal preference though.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooking_oil鈥?/a>
has some information and also links to specific oils and fats if you want to know more. :)What are you supposed to use to oil/butter a frying pan with?
Vegetable oil is healthier than butter (use canola oil or olive oil). But butter makes things like French Toast and pancakes (which are already unhealthy anyways) taste better.
For stir fry, use vegetable oil or flavored stir fry oil from the international aisle in your grocery store.
If you're scrambling eggs, cooking spray is fine.
For french toast, I usually use margarine. I use cooking spray for pancakes, and olive oil for stir fry.
Get your mom to let you help her in the kitchen. You'll catch on pretty quickly.

If I recall correctly, the engine has to come out before you can remove the pan.
If you are willing to pay the fee for an online manual, you can go to the below url for alldata. I think it's somewhere around 24.00 for 1 vehicle for a year.

Does anyone make a better oil pan gasket for the 300/6 ford in a '95 f150?
A mechanic said that that fords were awful for that and that the rubber ones were terrible about leaking,my 95 f150 has a bad leak and its gonna run about $275 just for labor.Does anyone make a better oil pan gasket for the 300/6 ford in a '95 f150?
Fel-Pro makes the best aftermarket that I have found. It is fitted and grommetted.Does anyone make a better oil pan gasket for the 300/6 ford in a '95 f150?
Use Blue RTV and throw gaskets away. I never use them and RTV never leaks. Replace your PCV valve its bad. Report Abuse
EVERYBODY KNOCKS THE FORD...YES,EVEN YER FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD MECHANICS. THEBETTER OF THE TWO (CORK AND RUBBER) THEY BOTH DETERIORATE,BUT ASSEMBELING THEM I'D GO WITH THE CORK.THEY HOLD THE GASKET-MAKING BETTER.
Buy the Ford replacement gasket. they are 1 piece rubber gaskets that you can install yourself..the oil pan does NOT need to be completely removed. just unbolt motor mount bolts, use floor jack and wood block under crank pulley to lift enough to place small 2%26gt;4 blocks between mount and frame, unbolt pan, lower enough to remove old gasket,it is also 1 piece rubber, then CAREFULLY install new gasket,, you must reach in pan to work gasket AROUND oil pump Pickup tube and screen, then bolt up. save the 275
Ford re-designed their oil pan gaskets, I would check at a Ford dealer

You can order an oil pan from most parts stores, dealer or junkyard.
I can't tell you what the exact price would be. Most shops in my area charge 60-70 bucks an hour. Most shops markup parts by 50%. You can probably figure at least two hours.

Can i use solder to stop a leaky oil pan?
does the oil and oil pan get hot enough to make the solder remelt? Can i use solder to stop a leaky oil pan?
I would not suggest it as a permanent fix. It would have to be very clean or it wouldn't stick, and there's a good chance it would not completely seal even then.
Surely you can find a replacement that's in better shape at the local auto recycling yard. With that, and a new gasket, you can solve your problem with less work and risk. Can i use solder to stop a leaky oil pan?
Solder is mostly lead, and does not have enough strength to stand up to the vibrations coming from your engine.
So the concern is not about heat, but about vibration cracking up your artwork and making it fall out.
Have you considered a repair with epoxy? That is leakproof, bonds well, and flexible.
It would work ok if the pan was off the car. The easiest way to do it would be to drain the oil, scuff the area with sandpaper, clean the area with carb cleaner or other solvent that doesn't leave a residue, apply a layer of J.B. Weld. The kwik set would be best if using it upside down. You can sand and apply more layers if you think it's necessary. Paint the area when you're finished.
it would be better to weld or braze the crack. no, the oil don,t get that hot to melt it. or like the person said above me. take the pan off, clean it good and use some jb weld on it. i did that before. you might be able to do it while the pan is still on the car. just drain the oil and fix it.
Oil pans are generally cast aluminum. I seriously doubt you could get solder to stick. The best bet is to have it TIG welded. But that doesn't always take either because cast aluminum is extremely hard to weld.
I wouldn't do that if I were you. If you can't replace it, brazing it would work better.

When I cook garlic in a pan with olive oil, what's the best way to make sure I don't overcook it?
Keep the heat below Medium. Preferrably Med.-Low and cook it for awhile. Don't brown the garlic if you can avoid it as it adds a bitter taste to any dish it is combined with or in. The olive oil has a low ';smoke point'; so it should not be heated very high either or it tastes acrid. Actually, Microwaving garlic is a good way to cook it without burning. When I cook garlic in a pan with olive oil, what's the best way to make sure I don't overcook it?
Make sure you cook it just until it's translucent, and not brown. When I cook garlic in a pan with olive oil, what's the best way to make sure I don't overcook it?
Watch it closely, garlic takes less than a minute to cook and take it out or add other ingredients before it goes from golden brown to darker or black. Nothing is worse than burnt garlic. Don't cook it at a high temperature if you are trying to infuse the oil, it will turn faster.
Stir constantly, make sure heat isn't too high, don't let it get too browned....If you mince it up small..... it only will take about 2 minutes.Good luck!
You are not going to over cook it, you might burn it if the flame or heat is too high. med is the best temperaure and the thinner the galic is sliced the more flavor you will get out.
It should be added after other ingredients begin to sweat or sautee (or sear/brown in the case of meat). If you are simply just cooking garlic in oil, you just need to watch it make sure it is removed from the heat before it browns. If it browns too much it will taste burnt and bitter.
it should be put in after other ingredients (ie onions, peppers, etc.) If you want it to flavor and infuse the oil keep it in until it is just translucent, pull it out and toss (or add back in at the end)...for best results keep medium flame/heat and below!!!perfect makeup

How could i change 1996 Toyota Camry oil pan?
I have a 1996 Toyota Camry 4 cyl with oil leaking from oil pan seal and oil pan rust. So, How could I remove the oil pan? how could I clean the old seal out? which one is the best way by using oil pan gasket or liquid sealant or using both( apply liquid sealant on the top of gasket)?
which oil pan's brand should I choose? SPECTRA PREMIUM, DORMAN, TOYOTA GINUINE PART.
I am very thank for anyone could answer my questions.
Thank againHow could i change 1996 Toyota Camry oil pan?
All you have to do is: Remove all bolts holding it on after you drain the oil from it...I don't use no kind of gasket sealer on oil pans...Only around the front and rear seals of it,I clean both areas with denatured alcohol before installing.Use the Fram brand rubber gasket set with the metal inserts in it for the best seal. How could i change 1996 Toyota Camry oil pan?
The pan is not hard to remove, you do have to move the exhaust also and there is 1 bracket that needs to be removed.
The gasket is FIPG (Form in place gasket), that is what Toyota uses.
It is just fine to use that.

I need to replace my oil pan in 2000 Bravada, how much should this run?
oil pans are not cheap..to buy the pan itself, you are looking at around 200 bucks..
if you have to pay for its installation, you are looking at 50 to 100 dollars an hour for labor..

I want to cook spinach in a pan with olive oil. How should I season it?
Garlic works for just about everything and a little bit of butter and you'll be golden!! Enjoy!I want to cook spinach in a pan with olive oil. How should I season it?
Garlic, Salt %26amp; Pepper. You could even add a little red pepper flake to it and spice it up a bit. You could just add lemon juice if you like fresh is best but if you don't have fresh a splash from the container won't hurt.I want to cook spinach in a pan with olive oil. How should I season it?
salt,fresh grinded pepper,nutmeg
Garlic, cumin, paprika, salt and pepper
I just use a little roasted garlic (from a jar) with salt and pepper.
A little olive oil and garlic is all you need...
salt and pepper of course!
add some lemon zest- (the peel of the lemon) it gives great lemon flavor.
throw in some garlic too.
toss with linguini and you got a yummy dinner=]
In a pan add olive oil, three cloves of fresh garlic sliced and then simmer garlic til golden, add spinich leaves and saute adding a little water so it won't burn. Add pepper, salt and a little red flake pepper. Spinich takes about 5 to 8 minutes to cook.
apple cider vinegar and sugar can also add bacon %26amp; onion
I'd add some minced garlic to the olive oil, perhaps some finely diced onions, sea salt, fresh ground pepper and at the end add some freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice.
A little diced garlic, a teaspoon of butter, a dash of basil and a sprinkling of parmesan cheese.
Spinach is good with just a little bit of margarine, grated parmesian, salt and pepper.great makeup

Do i need to put oil in the baking pan when baking meatballs?
or do they have enough grease already?Do i need to put oil in the baking pan when baking meatballs?
You can line your baking pan with aluminum foil and spray with non stick spray for easier cleanup and to prevent the meatballs from sticking -- but you don't need to add any oil to the pan.
how long you cook them depends on their size. If they are about the size of marbles, you can bake in a 400 degree oven for about 10 minutes.Do i need to put oil in the baking pan when baking meatballs?
They should have enough grease on there own you may consider adding a little water to the bottom of the pan so the bottom of them do not over brown and burn.
No need. Cook about 25 minutes at 350

How can you control the heat of boiling oil in a frying pan so that it doesn't get over 365 Fahrenheit?
I am gonna fry some in a frying pan, how can I control the heat of the oil so that it is between 330 and 365 Fahrenheit? Besides, what oil should I use?How can you control the heat of boiling oil in a frying pan so that it doesn't get over 365 Fahrenheit?
Peanut oil is the best oil for deep frying. Its thicker viscosity helps it absorb more heat without coming to the smoking point. Also...controlling the heat is done by adjusting the flame (if you have gas) or the dial for your burner ( if you have electric). Keeping the heat at about just above medium and using a deep fry thermometer will help you in maintaining the right temp. Also, if you are still having trouble...use a heavier bottomed pan. A good heavy 18/10 gauge pan with an alluminum disc bottom will help the heat distribute evenly. Hope this helps you!How can you control the heat of boiling oil in a frying pan so that it doesn't get over 365 Fahrenheit?
Safflower or peanut . Use a thermometer.
use canola oil (it can hold high temps without smoking) without a thermometer, it would be hard to tell the temp once it reaches temp you want, turn off heat because oil will stay hot enough (unless you're frying for a small army)
Temperature control of oil has alot to do with the type of pan and what your frying. A heavier pan - cast iron for example - has higher sides and even heating - is best for chicken parts - be careful of the oil height - a few pieces at a time keeps the temp from dropping too fast and the oil from getting to high - oil should never boil - only a thermometer - one that you leave in the oil - not an instant read - can give a true temp. You also have more control with a gas burner than with electric - if you use electric - don't use more than med - med/high heat - it may take longer - but it's safer- even if off it still has heat in the element - don't push pan off burner to cool - it could wave over the sides - and flare up on the burner pretty fast and hot. the best type of oil is vegetable - or a veg blend, canola, peanut as long as it has a high smoke point. Patience is key to safety when frying -
the only way you can do this is to get oil that boils at 365 F, and remove from heat once the oil boils away - or keep adding oil. The problem with that is, i think most oil boils at much higher temps, and only a few oils are safe to cook with.

If you cook vegetables like broccoli and spinich and carrots in a frying pan in olive oil does the heat kill?
all the nutrients and vitamins? is it worth cooking them this way for any nutritional value or should they always been consumed raw?If you cook vegetables like broccoli and spinich and carrots in a frying pan in olive oil does the heat kill?
Some vegetables' vitamins are more easily absorbed by our bodies when the vegetables are cooked. Usually no more than fifteen minutes for tomatoes, for example. For more info, read this:
http://www.realage.com/NutritionCenter/A鈥?/a>If you cook vegetables like broccoli and spinich and carrots in a frying pan in olive oil does the heat kill?
No as long as you dont over cook them and it brings the flavors out for better taste and blends the flavors.
it does kill alot of the nutrients and raw is always best..but , if you want a more exact amount of whats left in your food after you cook it, you could check out the manuel of nutrition , produced by MAFF,,,,MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE, FISHIERIES AND FOOD .....sorry bot the capitals
Cook them until just ';tender crisp';. Dark colored veggies are always higher in nutrional value than the lighter colored ones.
i suggest instead of a frying pan use a wok but dont add to much olive oil and dont have the heat to high

99 New Jetta oil pan crack - weld it or get a new one?
There's a 1.5 - 2 inch hairline crack in my oil pan. Its already been welded once and had a gas tank repair patch put on it. The patch held for about a year. It oozes a bit when its sitting in the garage. I'm not sure how much it leaks when I'm driving.
So, should I take it to a weld shop (about $70/hour plus the pain and hassle of getting the damn thing off)
Or, should I spend the $500 to get a new oil pan and have it installed?99 New Jetta oil pan crack - weld it or get a new one?
My vote is to replace the pan,,,you can probably get a used pan from an auto wrecker,,and have someone install it for you.
Cheaper solution.99 New Jetta oil pan crack - weld it or get a new one?
I'll weld it for you, I have a MIG at my house.... A good welder would have done the job well enough it wouldn't leak at all..... maybe they just put some JB weld on it......
I'd look around junkyards for a used pan or one on like ebay. I have tried the welding, gluing, gas tank repair, etc etc repairs on a fly wheel casing on a old Pontiac. Never held and just caused more issues and headaches. Already welded once and its not holding.....either bad weld or something is twisted.
Either the original pan is bad, warped, the oil pan bolt up point is warped or not level, bolts could of been or still could be getting over torqued in turn causing stress on the metal and in turn causing it to tear. Bad, cheap or aftermarket oil pan gasket as it may not be thick enough.
If it was my car....I'd find a new or used pan that is good and install it by factory torque specs with a factory gasket. I would also have the plane of the the bolts also checked for level and to make sure no damage there that might cause the same damage to this new pan.
for that year,i would get 1 from the junk yard and put a new gasket on it.
500.00 thats a rip off. get one at a junk yard prolly a 2.0 liter right?should be able to get 1 for around 50 to 100.00 max then sell it and by a honda or camry lol
Get a new pan. Check ebay for a used pan, and get it installed somewhere. Check your oil regularly fill it to the full mark, and see how much oil you leak in a week. It may be cheaper if it only drips a little to leave it as it is.

What kind of oil to use when pan-frying asian dumplings?
What's the best kind of oil to use when pan-frying dumplings (gyoza, mandu, potsticker, etc.)? I'm thinking canola or sesame, except doesn't sesame start to taste funny when you cook it for too long? I'm looking for which oil will make the dumpling taste the best, not what's healthiest (otherwise I'd just steam them!)What kind of oil to use when pan-frying asian dumplings?
peanut oil , sesame oil is more of a flavorer in there. What kind of oil to use when pan-frying asian dumplings?
Peanut oil is good enough. A light oil like that it best. Sesame oil can be too heavy, sometimes, but it adds a bit of complementary flavor. If you want a healthy oil, go for grapeseed. It's flavorless and very light, plus it has antioxidants and omega-3.
I normally just use canola with all my frying but with asian frying i add some peanut oil and a little sesame oil for that classic flavor.

canola oil. it's universal enough to use for anything that you need oil for [in cooking].
mostly all asian food is cooked in peanut oil.
yeap typically Peanut oil
I always use Vegetable oil or Olive oil
Peanut oil won't stink as much as other oils.

350 chevy engine: do i need to drop the oil pan to change the timing cover?
The answer is both yes and no.
The oil pan and timing cover share the front seal.. The seal (rubber) fits into a groove in the bottom of timing cover, then the oil pan fits up against that.
The easy way to do it is remove the front 2 or 3 bolts per side on oil pan, and pry oil pan down a tad.. Remove timing cover.. Then on re install use RTV under the oil pan and timing cover..
Now it can be done w/o moving oil pan, but it is harder.. You can take timing cover off pretty easy, but to install it with pan still up, you will need to cut the corners off the timing cover where the seal fits, and also cut the corners off the seal.. Then use RTV to fill in those corners on reinstall.
I just did the above on a 1982 firebird with a 1968 327 in it. It has about 500 miles on it since the install and no leaks350 chevy engine: do i need to drop the oil pan to change the timing cover?
Like vettecam %26amp; chevyraceman said, you can do it without completely dropping the pan, but you do have to loosen the pan bolts and drop the front of the pan a few millimeters. Make sure you follow their advice about using RTV sealer or you won't keep oil in the thing.350 chevy engine: do i need to drop the oil pan to change the timing cover?
Don't listen to that guy.....350 chevy is and will always be a small block.
You will have to drop the pan to put a new gasket on the front of the pan and re-seal it....if the pan has a four peice pan gasket. And pray they didn;t use cork or your doing the pan gasket too.
IF your engine has the one peice reusable oil pan gasket installed already, you will not have to drop the pan but you will have to loosen the first three to four bolts on the front of the pan in order to pull the pan down far enough to get the grooves of the timing cover onto the lip of the pan.
Be sure to use silicone on the timing cover gasket or it will leak.
yes because everything is connected to the bottom sprocket.
what year and a small or big block 350? chances are the answer is yes, but you can just drop the front of the pan to remove, you dont have to take the pan the whole way off or pull the whole engine to get the pan off, if that's whar your trying to find out.

I am looking for a oil pan for my 06 cobalt?
I run over something and tore a hole in my oil pan on my 06 chevy cobalt, i try'd looking online at some places but can't find one, anyone know where i can get one? New or used? it don't matterI am looking for a oil pan for my 06 cobalt?
Your best bet for new is GMPartsDirect.com. They are a dealer that sells parts below MSRP. The problem is that you'll need the part number specific to your motor.
If you don't mind a used pan, try Car-Part.com. You can search salvage yards locally and nationally.I am looking for a oil pan for my 06 cobalt?
New? GM parts counter.
Used? Likely still attached to a used/wrecked vehicle at a recycler's yard.
gmpartsdirect.com hs your oil pan in stock. Don't forget the gasket.

Is it smarter to drill for oil that may pan out in 40 years or spend money developing alt. resources?
If we took all of the money that some folks want to put in the ground hoping that we can fish up some oil and see a reduction in fuel prices come 40 years down the road, isn't that throwing good money after bad?
Wouldn't we be better off raising CAFE standards and spending money to develop wind, solar, geothermal and nuclear power instead? Is it smarter to drill for oil that may pan out in 40 years or spend money developing alt. resources?
If it would REALLY take 40 years to ';pan out,'; then alternative energy would make sense to me. But since it won't take 40 years, then alternative energy is just a liberal pipe-dream.Is it smarter to drill for oil that may pan out in 40 years or spend money developing alt. resources?
Why is it always the false dichotomy of ';either or'; some draconian measures.
We can't just stop using petroleum, and we do need to develop both alternatives and lower demand.
But the gasoline problem isn't a crude oil problem that drilling will solve. It's a refining problem which the oil companies are not addressing becsause the profit is in short supply.
So keep the supply low by not creating larger refinery capacity, and the prices go up. Supply and demand. Artificially manipulated for the supply siders.
The answer is to do both at the same time. Alternative energies are not viable at this time, and who knows when they will be. Again we don't know how long it will take for oil to pan out, it could be very shortly, knowing all that we now know about oil processes. The smart thing is to allow for both and not limit ourselves to one solution.
Yes, and you are wrong. There is enough shale oil in the U.S. to run America for 125 years without using any crude oil.
Democrats voted against the use of shale oil.
that option was on the table from the time of carter. we have beenworking on all those things and they still have yet to pan out. we can be getting oil from a rig in as little as 18 months, not sure where you got the 40 years. the 18 months is from several oil people. that is best case 3-5 years is more likely. and say we sink billions into alt which i believe is our future, what in the meantime, keep depending on the rest of the world? it all has to be done together.
What if it only took 6 months. Show me how it takes 40 years to get oil to the market please. Don't believe the propaganda.
Why not both?
Oil needs competition. The price is high because they have enjoyed a monopoly on motor vehicle fuel since prohibition.
Let's get alternative fuels online and continue to drill.
And, no, raising CAFE standards is an artificial government solution, not a market solution. Government solutions never Never NEVER work and always Always ALWAYS result in blowback (unintended consequences) that end up hurting the most vulnerable among us while politicians can just print money for themselves rather than suffer with the rest of us.
Kind of a ';let them eat cake'; mentality.
Why can't we do both? it cost us nothing to allow the oil companies to spend THEIR money to search for oil. we just need to grant them permission. also alt energy has a poor track record with unintended consequences, IE birds in windmills and ethanol driving up food prices. There is no panacea.
Isn't it interesting that vehicles on the road today have roughly the same fuel economy as they did over 20 years ago? Precisely why we need to work on fossil fuel alternatives and as the consumer, require corporations to look beyond the next fiscal quarter.
Even drilling today will not effect energy prices for years, perhaps decades.
P.S. Isn't it interesting Big Exxon weaseled out of paying for the Valdez cleanup?
Why can't we do both?
And by the way, wind, solar, geothermal and nuclear are great but have nothing to do with oil. Less than 2% of the electricity consumed in the US is generated by burning oil.
Also, it wasn't conservatives or libertarians who shut nuclear down 20 years ago........
(star)
we have to invest in alternate fuels. This planet gives us all we need with solar and wind energy...even hydroelectric. We just need to learn to harness and cultivate it to our benefit.
First of all, it doesn't take 40 years to get the oil! Company's have estimated a year some places to 10 years. We need to do both! Drill and use alliterative sources but unless we quit arguing who is right or wrong we are gonna be stuck in the same place we are in 20 years from now!
Nope, because your 40 year number is bogus. It wouldn't take 5. We know where the oil is, we simply haven't been able to get to it.
Secondly, again, nope. Oil is a known quantity. We KNOW that it will work efficiently in our vehicles and factories. Windmills and solar panels? Not so much. Those are gambles which don't show much promise. So, basically, even using your exaggerated 40 year number, we're far more likely to see a result from oil in the next 50 years than we are to see anything substantive come out of alternative fuels.
Besides, you'd be hard pressed to find a vehicle that could run on wind, solar or geothermal. A nuclear car sounds pretty interesting though.
Well the renewable energy is a budding industry which is still relatively small and doesn't have very much power.
The oil industry on the other hand has been around for decades and have snuggled up nice n cozy with the powers that be.
That's the one advantage that renewable energy doesn't have, it's the new kid on the block and all the oil industry will do everything it can to keep it small and powerless, planet be damned.
It sure would be smarter to spend the money on developing alternative resources.
Because even if the oil you drill for DOES pan out, that won't stop oil from getting more and more expensive as world demand continues to increase.
Why on earth would we want to remain addicted to something when its price is only going to go up and up and up???
You make it sound as there is a chance we won't find oil if we drill, like it is some kind of pipe dream. And where do you come up with 40 years down the road?
No one is saying that drilling is THE answer. But it is part of the answer along with everything else you mentioned. The fact is, there is no alternative energy source close to being ready to replace oil. So it is a fact we have to continue to explore and bring new oil to the surface so that in 10 years we can be closer to energy independence.
The money you speak of belongs to corporate shareholders, not the Government. So, with that in mind, we cannot force a company to stop making a product that has a very large and competitive market. That is simply unconstitutional.
I agree that we have no choice but to develop viable energy sources other than hydrocarbons but this does not happen over night.
Lifting the ban on drilling will cause speculators to ';speculate'; a future gain in supply. Doesn't matter how long it takes. Commodities are traded in terms of ';future delivery';... The second that federal ban in lifted, and the possibility of more supply is realized, the price will go down. That is just a fact.
Consider that when Israel threatened Iran a few weeks ago, the price jumped 5% in one day. When ';Big Oil'; announced contracts for drilling in Iraq the prices DROPPED more than 3% in one day! When Hersh published his story in the New Yorker about U.S. covert ops being in Iran getting ready for a U.S. invasion, well... look at the market today!
You can't have it both ways. Either world events effect the price or it doesn't... If speculators know that the U.S. is serious about increasing the world supply, just going on trends from than past month, the price would surely go down with the quickness... Not to mention that once the drills start going, what that could do!
We SHOULD be investigating and developing alt. forms, but in the mean time, my car (which I use to go to work and get my kids to day care and by food which is delivered by trucks) all use a byproduct of OIL, so it is important at the same time to take steps to make sure we GET TO THE POINT that we can offer our children and grandchildren alt. sources of energy!
Our children's children will need it, why wait, isn't what we do now for the FUTURE of the country?
DRILL HERE DRILL NOW !!!
DAMN IT ALL
The libofools have been saying this for 20 years! It's amazing how much oil would have been in the supply if you leftists would actually want to DO SOMETHING!
McCain wants to expand Nuclear power, Obama and the dems want foolish windmill power that will kill ';oh-no'; birds!
one would be a sure thing as an investment. we know the oil is there, we know we can get it and we know it has value.
Now it's 40 years?? My God that time frame rises rapidly. Two weeks ago it was 10 years. In point of fact if the oil companies start drilling holes today they could find, extract and refine oil within five years.
I agree that while they are doing this that we should be encouraging research for alternate energy sources but to ignore our own oil and imply that we would need anywhere near 40 years to see results is simply foolish..
alternative resources.
This question is like asking ';is it better to spend money on your meth addiction or to take a taxi to the nearest rehab';
However, we should realistically be at least able to sustain ourselves until the alternative resources are more available.
